relational, affirming, & approachable therapy for teens & young adults
Hi! I’m Laina (she/her).
I’m glad you’re here. I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who specializes in relational, culturally affirming therapy that helps teens and young people navigate adolescence & emerging adulthood.
Starting therapy for the first time, or with a new therapist, can feel overwhelming. I welcome all parts of who you are and any conflicting feelings you might have about therapy. Together, we can work to create a space for you that feels restorative, insightful, and helpful. It might even be kinda fun sometimes :-)
As a therapist, my style is approachable and creative. I believe that trusting, warm, and understanding relationships that both celebrate and gently challenge us, are central to healing. When starting therapy, sometimes it takes time to open up. Sometimes we may not want to talk, feel like we don’t even have the words, or know where to start. I honor that. There’s many ways we can gain more understanding about those uncertain or difficult areas, at your pace.
I offer individual therapy services to teens and young adults ages 14-21. I also offer parent/caregiver consultation when clinically appropriate.
We can meet in-person at my office in Southwest Portland, or remotely via secure video session.
Areas of focus --
Teens & young people wanting support around anxiety, depression, loneliness & isolation, trauma, and overwhelming stress
Teens & young people who are hestitant about therapy
Mixed/multi-racial & BIPOC youth
Queer, trans, & gender expansive youth
Values and approaches --
I believe healing happens within the context of trusting relationships.
Providing culturally affirming, trauma-informed, and collaborative care is central to my practice.
Each session, we will create a space where you can feel more understood, connected, and supported.
How to get started
Reach out & schedule your free 20-30 minute consult. Before we schedule, I'll send along some additional information and ask you (and/or a parent/guardian) to fill out a short questionnaire.
We'll have our consult call. During this 20 minute video call we will briefly discuss your hopes for therapy, explore any questions you have, and whether we’d be a good fit. Depending on age and comfort level, parent/guardians may be present for part of the consult.
We'll start our sessions either in person or over a secure video platform.
Sometimes we need, and also deserve, extra support.
We aren't meant to go through difficulty alone.
